BIO

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Angelo Thomas is an emerging filmmaker, activist, and communications specialist. He holds a B.F.A. in Film & Video from Columbus College of Art & Design, where he graduated with the honors of Outstanding Senior and the Commitment to Service Award. His senior thesis film, The Incredible Jake Parker, is the first feature film made by a student at the college in over 30 years. Angelo wrote, directed, and produced the $50,000 film, based on his book of the same name and real-life experience battling an eating disorder. The film was awarded Best Breakout Feature at the Louisiana LGBT+ Film Festival and is an Official Selection of the Awareness Film Festival and the New York Movie Awards. Angelo is currently in post-production on DeRosa, a feature-length documentary about a transgender woman's lifelong journey towards self-acceptance.

Since recovering from anorexia in 2018, Angelo has been proud to give a voice to men, LGBTQ+, and Latinx people struggling with eating disorders. He currently works as a Communications Coordinator for the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). Previously, Angelo worked as a Digital Outreach Coordinator for the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD). He developed ANAD's Inclusive Care initiative and has spoken at NEDA walks and conferences across the country. Angelo lives in Columbus, Ohio, with his fiancé, Kyle, and their two chihuahuas, Dora and Diego.
